NAMING Celebrant in Brighton
Naming ceremonies to welcome, honour and celebrate
What is a Naming ceremony?
At its heart, a naming ceremony is about acknowledgement – recognising that something important has begun. Most often welcoming a child into a family and community, but also honouring a new identity, chapter or change.
A chance to pause, to welcome, and to honour a name, a life, or a new chapter. There are no templates and no expectations, just intention.
Free from rules or prescribed beliefs, a celebrant-led naming ceremony allows you to gather the people who matter most and say, this moment matters – in a way that feels personal, inclusive and entirely your own.

Welcoming a child
into the family
Naming ceremonies are most commonly held to welcome a child into your family — by birth, adoption or fostering. It is a beautiful thing and something worth celebrating, often chosen as an alternative to a baptism or christening.
I will explore the origin and circumstances of their arrival, date, time and meaning carried in their name — all forming part of their story. I will also speak about the hopes held for their future, and acknowledge the important people in their family and wider community, who will love and support them.
Identity &
life transitions
Naming ceremonies aren’t only for children. They can
also mark significant personal moments such as:
A new name or identity
A fresh chapter after change or loss
A milestone birthday or rite of passage
New homes, careers, callings
Other meaningful beginnings and milestones reached
If it matters to you – it’s worth marking well.
What your Naming
ceremony can include:
Every naming ceremony I create is individually crafted and shaped around you. Your ceremony might include:
Personal storytelling and reflection
•
Promises or intentions from parents, guardians or supporters
•
Readings, poems or music
•
Cultural or spiritual elements (as much or as little as you wish)
•
Simple rituals that symbolise welcome, belonging & fresh starts
•
Held at home, in a garden, by the sea or somewhere entirely unexpected, the ceremony will feel relaxed, thoughtful and personal.
“We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect celebrant for our baby’s blessing. Elissa made the whole experience feel so personal and full of love. From the very beginning, she truly understood what we wanted and on the day brought such a calm and heartfelt presence, and interacted with our baby girl so well — it meant the world to us. W
e’ll always treasure that moment. Thank you for making it so beautiful Elissa

Creating your Naming ceremony
We begin with a conversation
A relaxed chat about who and what you’re celebrating. From there, I listen carefully, gather your story, and write a bespoke ceremony that reflects your values and the meaning of this moment. You’ll have the chance to review and refine it, so everything feels just right.
•
On the day
I lead the ceremony with warmth and joy, holding the space so you and your loved ones can be fully present to mark the new arrival or beginning we are celebrating.
•
Let’s talk!
If you’re looking for a Brighton-based naming celebrant (I’ll travel anywhere to celebrate you!) who will create something warm, inclusive and genuinely personal — I’d love to hear from you.

BESPOKE SONGWRITING
An intimate artist-led commission
On rare occasions, I also offer bespoke songwriting to accompany naming ceremonies and moments of personal significance.
This work involves me crafting lyrics and melodies that explore the story of a name and arrival of a child, the claiming of an identity, or the quiet significance of a new chapter taking shape — and allowing space for what wants to be marked.
From this, I will write an original song created solely for you. The piece is professionally recorded and offered as something to hold onto — shared during a naming ceremony and celebration, if it feels right, or kept privately as a marker of this moment in time.
