Blackstock Country Estate: One of East Sussex's Most Beautiful Barn Wedding Venues

Okay look, some wedding venues have a lovely ceremony space, others have beautiful grounds, a few have great food.

Blackstock Country Estate somehow manages to bring all of those elements together, whilst still feeling wonderfully relaxed and quintessentially English.

Set amongst 70 acres of rolling East Sussex countryside, between Brighton, Eastbourne and Tunbridge Wells, Blackstock Estate feels like the sort of place where everyone instantly exhales the moment they arrive. Meadows, lakes, ancient woodland and sweeping views across the South Downs create a backdrop that never feels manufactured or over-designed. It's simply beautiful.

I was lucky enough to spend the day exploring the venue with the wonderful team (I've shared a reel from my visit below), and I'm delighted to now be one of Blackstock Country Estate's official preferred celebrants.

Two beautiful barns, one seamless wedding day

One of the things I love most about Blackstock is how naturally the day flows.

Rather than everything happening in one room, your wedding unfolds across different spaces, each with its own atmosphere.

The beautifully restored 16th-century Tudor Barn is full of character. Ancient oak beams, huge cartwheel chandeliers and centuries of history give it a warmth that photographs simply can't capture. It feels rustic without being overly "rustic", elegant without feeling formal and manages that difficult balance of being both grand and incredibly welcoming at the same time.

The Granary provides a separate space for your wedding breakfast and can comfortably seat up to 180 guests, giving everyone room to relax before the celebrations continue into the evening. Meanwhile, the Tudor Barn is licensed for ceremonies of up to 120 guests and transforms beautifully into an evening party space once dinner is over.

As a celebrant, I always notice how guests move through a venue.

At Blackstock, nothing feels rushed. There's space to wander with a drink, catch up with family in the courtyard, explore the grounds or simply take in those incredible Sussex views.

The outdoor pergola is made for celebrant-led ceremonies

If you've followed me for a while, you'll know I have a slight weakness for outdoor ceremonies. There's something rather magical about making your promises surrounded by birdsong instead of walls.

Blackstock's outdoor ceremony space is one of those places that immediately makes you stop and imagine it.

The pergola sits overlooking the surrounding countryside, framed by uninterrupted views across the South Downs. On a summer's day, it's hard to imagine a more peaceful setting to begin married life.

Although the venue is licensed for legal ceremonies, I think this space is especially wonderful for celebrant-led weddings. Why?

Because a celebrant ceremony isn't constrained by a prescribed script.

It gives us time to tell your story properly. When you've got a setting as beautiful as this, it deserves a ceremony that's just as memorable.

Endless opportunities for photographs

Every venue has a few "photo spots". Blackstock has 70 acres of them.

The lakes. The meadows. The long countryside views. The beautiful Tudor architecture. Even the walk between the barns feels cinematic.

One of the lovely touches the venue offers is access to a golf buggy to help you and your photographer reach some of the more scenic areas of the estate, meaning you can make the most of those incredible backdrops without disappearing from your guests for hours.

Everything you need, without feeling like a wedding factory

One thing that really stood out during my visit was how considered everything feels.

Luxury accommodation is available on-site for up to 22 guests, making it easy to turn your wedding into a full weekend away rather than just one day. The in-house catering team creates bespoke menus, there's experienced coordination throughout the planning process, and because everything is all in one place, the day feels wonderfully effortless for both you and your guests.

The couples I work with usually have one thing in common. They care deeply about how their wedding feels. They want guests to laugh. They want them to cry. They want them to leave saying,

"That ceremony was so them."

Blackstock creates exactly the sort of atmosphere where that can happen.

The relaxed flow between spaces, the peaceful surroundings and the flexibility of the venue make it a wonderful place to tell your story in a way that feels completely personal. And as one of Blackstock Estate's preferred celebrants, I'd be absolutely delighted to help you do just that.
