Every now and then, you walk into a wedding venue and immediately understand the kind of couple it's going to attract.
At 100 Barrington, I knew within about thirty seconds.
This isn't the venue for couples looking for chandeliers, manicured lawns and a seven-course wedding breakfast served by people wearing white gloves.
This is the venue for couples who live and breathe South London.
Who appreciate great industrial design. I’m talking sleek steel lines, exposed brick, towering glass, reclaimed timber and a 24ft high arched ceiling.
Who want incredible food, great music and a celebration that feels like them and fits their lifestyle.
Tucked away on a quiet street in Brixton, a stones throw from the tube station, 100 Barrington manages to feel both hidden and right in the middle of everything at the same time. And after being lucky enough to be shown around by Anna from the events team recently, I completely understand why so many modern London couples fall in love with it.
A former Victorian furniture factory with serious character
One of the things I love most about 100 Barrington is that it wasn't built to be a wedding venue.
The building started life in 1879 as a Victorian furniture factory, and many of its original industrial features remain today. The exposed brickwork, steel pillars, soaring ceilings and warehouse proportions give it an authenticity that's difficult to replicate.
You know when a venue tries really hard to look industrial-chic?
100 Barrington doesn't need to, it actually is.
And because the building already has so much personality, it works equally well whether you're planning something minimalist and contemporary or a celebration full of colour, flowers and personal touches.
The spaces flow beautifully throughout the day
One thing I always notice when I visit wedding venues is how the day moves from one moment to the next.
At 100 Barrington, that's been thought through brilliantly.
The venue centres around three connected spaces:
The main warehouse-style reception space
The stunning archway bar
The courtyard garden
This allows the day to unfold naturally without guests feeling like they're constantly being moved from room to room. Drinks can flow into dinner. Dinner can flow into dancing. And everyone stays connected to the atmosphere of the celebration.
On top of this, being a dry hire space (100 Barrington can provide couples with a list of preferred and trusted suppliers to help with making a shortlist for caterers, florists, bands, even celebrants!) the venue gives couples enormous flexibility while still providing plenty of atmosphere from the moment you walk in. There are exposed brick walls, festoon lighting, hanging plants, Chesterfield sofas and beautiful architectural features throughout the space.
Let's talk about that archway bar...
One of the standout features of 100 Barrington is the spectacular 24-foot-high railway arch that houses the venue's bar. It's dramatic, characterful and had me whispering ‘Oh Wow!’ under my breath as we walked through. The enormous chandelier hanging beneath the arch creates an incredible focal point, especially as the evening begins to unfold.

If you're planning a wedding weekend rather than just a wedding day, there's another reason to love 100 Barrington.
Right next door you'll find 542, the venue's intimate speakeasy-style cocktail bar with stunning hand-painted full wall mural.
What a bonus to have this moody, sexy space with its own in-house sommelier, who curated the wine cellar selection. It’s perfect to gather all your favourite people the night before your wedding. Or host an engagement party. Or use as a relaxed post-wedding celebration.
It's stylish without being pretentious and feels like one of those places you discover through a friend taking you to an impromptu jazz night, then want to keep all to yourself!
For couples hosting guests travelling into London, it's a brilliant way to extend the celebrations beyond the wedding itself.
Final Thoughts
The couples I can imagine here tend to be searching for an alternative wedding venue in London, particularly South if that’s local to them already.
They are keen to find that perfect mix of an industrial warehouse style that does not compromise on elegance, a non-traditional space with a super-special courtyard and a secretive ‘if you know it, you know it’ entrance and vibe - a true urban gem!
