Round Chapel in Hackney is one of those rare places.

I recently met the wonderful general manager Philip on a tour of the space, and was surprised to learn that the Round Chapel is steeped in history and culture putting it in a league of its own as a wedding venue for dry hire.

One of the reasons Round Chapel feels different is because it has always been different.

The building opened in 1871 as Clapton Park Chapel, but its roots stretch back to a nonconformist congregation founded in Hackney in 1804. The congregation was part of London's dissenting movement, people who chose not to follow the conventions of the established church. Even the architecture reflected that spirit, with a striking circular design that challenged traditional church layouts.

In other words, this venue was alternative long before being alternative was cool.

Today, the building is recognised as one of the country's most significant historic structures, with Grade II* listed status placing it among the top few percent of protected buildings in England.

And when you step inside, you immediately understand why.

One of the things I love most about Round Chapel is that it is far from a wedding factory.

The venue hosts concerts, theatre performances, community events, film shoots, fashion shoots, festivals, talks and cultural events throughout the year. It's become one of Hackney's most loved creative spaces and continues to embrace its alternative roots.
