A Private Wedding for Henrique & Ross: A Celebration of Love, Pride and Community
Ross & Henrique
A wedding weekend, not just a wedding day
One of my favourite things about Henrique and Ross's celebration was that they turned it into an entire weekend with their wonderful community of friends. There was great food, plenty of laughter and, because they're huge music lovers, a trip to see the Scissor Sisters live. I absolutely love that.
Not because every wedding needs a gig (although I certainly wouldn't complain), but because it perfectly captured their priorities.
Their wedding wasn't just about one ceremony. It was an excuse to bring together the people they love most, celebrate their relationship and create a weekend full of memories they'll still be talking about years from now.
Their celebrant-led ceremony was intimate, heartfelt and wonderfully relaxed, surrounded by the people who know them best. It wasn't about putting on a show. It was about taking a moment to celebrate five years of building a life together and doing it in a way that felt completely authentic to them.
Like all the best weddings, it reflected who they are.
Every love story deserves to feel completely celebrated
People sometimes ask me whether I conduct LGBTQIA+ weddings.
The answer is a very easy yes.
I firmly believe that allyship isn’ a rainbow logo, so it is imperative that I create ceremonies where every couple feels completely themselves.
That means no assumptions. No awkward questions. No trying to squeeze your relationship into traditions that don't fit. I'll ask what language you'd like me to use. I'll ask about your pronouns. I'll ask how you'd like your relationship described if I ever share your story online.
These very small acts of care, help create a ceremony where you can simply relax and enjoy being celebrated. Read more about my approach here.
Love is worth celebrating
Henrique and Ross reminded me of something I think we all need reminding of from time to time.
Life moves quickly. Work gets busy. Friends end up scattered across different cities and countries. Making the decision to bring everyone together for a whole weekend, to celebrate love, friendship, music, laughter and community, isn't indulgent. It's important.
Whether your wedding includes 200 guests or 20, a concert by one of your favourite bands or simply dinner around one long table, the best celebrations are always the ones that feel true to the people at the centre of them.
Henrique and Ross's certainly did.
